NEWS - to the holders of the Spoleto Card is no longer recognized the entrance to the Diocesan Museum and the Basilica of Sant' Eufemia.
Until 24th June 2018 to the Spoleto Card holders, presenting themselves at the Diocesan Museum and the Basilica of Sant' Eufemia, a discount of € 1,00 is recognized on the whole ticket, which includes the entrance to the entire itinerary of visit "Art of Spirit - Spirit of art "
(Upper part of the cathedral, the chapel of St. Anna, the ascent to the apse, the belfry, the Diocesan Museum and the Basilica of Sant’ Eufemia).
Opened in the 1970s, the museum was originated by the need to promote the historical-artistic heritage across the Spoleto-Norcia diocese and prevent it from ruin. It is placed in the Archbishop’s Palace (that also includes the Basilica of St. Euphemia), in the section known as “The Cardinal’s Apartment”.
The works on display date to the 12th-18th centuries and are chronologically and thematically arranged in halls featuring 16th-century doors and 18th/19th-century decorations. Among these, the Bishops’ Hall features walls with portraits of Spoletan bishops, from the origins up to now. Portraying artists include Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi, Cavalier d’Arpino, Sebastiano Conca, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Alessandro Algardi. From the Cardinal’s Chapel you access a passageway that leads to the Basilica of St. Euphemia’s Women Galleries, a remarkable sample of Romanesque architecture.
